Notification area icons slow to load

Hi all,

XP Pro SP2, all patches and updates.
On one of my machines, I've noticed that the icons in the notification area
are much slower to load than on my other machines. I've run all scans
(Windows Defender, Adaware, Spybot and F-Secure) and all is clean. All
unnecessary processes and start up programs have been disabled in MSCONFIG.

Is there a way to 'speed up' the loading of these icons? Thanks for any
replies.

Are you comparing apple to apple? In other words, are all machines in
question loading the same startup programs, etc...

No, there are different programs on each machine. The one in question has
the fewest and is the most powerful machine, so 'should' be at least as
quick to load the icons, which are:
Windows Defender
EMU 0404 (soundcard)
F-Secure Internet Security

I understand that the programs are not active until the icon appears - is
that generally correct?

I also have a question and no answers. My ISP supplies a web acceleratorand
after installing this I had an icon down in the notification area. Sometimes
it is there and sometimes not. I have tried to get answers but no one seems
to know why. I am running Windows Home XP with SP2. All updates are
current, no virus's and no spy ware. Maybe some of the windows settings are
wrong????
