Nothing happens when clicking a link in MSN messenger.

When clicking a link, like "my space", I just see my system becomes
busy for few seconds, then it becomes quiet.
I tried to install MSN messenger 7.5, but the problem remains the same.
System WinXP Home SP2.

Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Set Program Access and Defaults >
Browser: What's chosen here?

Does the behavior persist when clicking on a link elsewhere (e.g., on a
webpage, in an email)?

Is the machine fully up-to-date at Windows Update?

Do you have "Allow links in conversations" checked?

I have tried everything you said, including those of MAE, but still
nothing happened.
Now I found a new symptom: if I have already opened an IE window,
clicking links works well, but if there're no IE opened already, then
nothing happened.
The same symptom applies to Outlook Express.

One of these may or may not work and both are safe to do without being
destructive on any IE or registry setting. Both update common registry
settings without having to load regedit and attack a possible corruption in
a manual mode.

Close IE try one, open IE and test, Open OE and test, close IE then try the
other repeating the IE/OE open/close etc..

Click Start -> Run, and then type in 'REGSVR32 URLMON.DLL' (without the
quotes). You should then have a dialog box telling you that the procedure
was completed

First: Load Internet Explorer; click: Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs
Tab. Next, click Reset Web Settings, and Make sure to also uncheck "reset my
home page" check box. Finally, go to Advanced tab and click Restore
Defaults.

Have you tried reinstalling MSN Messenger? You've ran Windows / Microsoft
Updates from http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate? Under Control
Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Set Program Access and Defaults > Default Web
Browser, Internet Explorer is selected? You have "Allow links in
conversations" checked in under the Security section of the Options? Have
you tried to many things winston suggested?
