Not remembering folder's view settings

Windows XP Home won't remember the view settings that I assign to the root
directory of a removable USB drive. Is there a way to get it to always
remember that I like a tiled (large icon) view? (Can this be done in the
DESKTOP.INI?) Thanks very much.
