Windows Explorer won't remember (some) settings

Jon Danniken

Hello,

I have recently installed a fresh copy of WinXP, and most all is going well,
except for a few settings of Windows Explorer (WinXP xp3 with IE7).

Specifically, the following toolbar settings are not retained: eliminating
the "Links" button (it always comes back), and the toolbar positions (they
always come back to the default of menu up top, buttons in middle, address
on bottom).

Additionally, the view settings for each folder are not retained, even
though the "Remember each folder's view settings" value is checked in
Tools:FolderOptions:View.

Any idea on what is causing this behavior?

Thanks,

Jon

Additional information:

I just noticed that IE7 is also now unable to remember the setting for the
"Command Bar". I removed all of the dodads, but when I reopen IE7 they are
all back.

I might try clicking the RESET button in the Advanced tab as a first step.

You may want to do this from the Control Panel with IE7 closed - or type
iinetcpl.cpl in the Start > Run box.

Okay, I came up with a workaround for this problem. Instead of using the
"Windows Explorer" shortcut, I made a shortcut to "C:\", and it works the
way it is supposed to.

Still no idea why IE7 isn't working, but as I've been training myself to use
FF instead, it can go unrectified.

Thanks Michael. I found a workaround to the Explorer issue, but IE7 is still
not remembering it's settings. I will try the reset if I can find no other
solution.
