Not recognizing dvd drive on start up

I recently installed a new dvd drive . On inital start up in BIOS I get "
sec slave drive ATAPI incompatible" . In device manager the drive is not
listed. If I reboot , it reboots fine and the drive apears and functions
properly. How would I get it recognized on intial start up?
Thanks

Reseat the drive connectors. If that does not work, the drive is taking to
long to initialize from a cold start, or the BIOS is not giving it enough
time to initialize. If the BIOS has a choice of using a long diagnostic or
normal vs. quick option, opt for the longer one. This may help. You may
need to exchange the DVD drive. Another faint possibility is a shaky power
supply.

I changed my DVD drive to the Master drive and my other drive to the Slave now it seems to be ok.
Thanks for your help
