not receiving all my mail

hi always used o/ex just got a new laptop with Vista on.
When i open my mail, usually receive about 15 mails, then after a while a
messge saying

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'pop.ntlworld.com', Server: 'pop.ntlworld.com',
Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

any ideas all open on the ntlworld e mail site

One message probably has a large attachment, go to the server and move it to
another folder, then try send/receive?
 
That symptom is usually caused by interference from an antivirus
program. Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus should be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

Email scanning in any antivirus should be disabled, for reasons
explained here:

will try that, its avg i am using, could it be that

Did you check your server mailbox as I previously suggested?

Remove and reinstall AVG using the Custom install option, offered part way
through the procedure, then deselect the mail scan option.
 
have disabled the scanner, all seems to be ok now
