cannot receive emails...

I'd be grateful for your help on this please...

I am using windows mail and using AVG free security. I also use virgin
service provider. Until a few days ago my email was working well and I never
had to insert a username and password to send or receive emails. I can now
send emails but not receive them. When I click the send/receive button a pop
up appears asking me to provide my username and password to 'logon to
pop.ntlworld.com' . These error messages appear:

Account: 'pop.ntlworld.com', Server: 'pop.ntlworld.com', Protocol: POP3,
Server Response: '-ERR invalid user name or password.', Port: 110,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92
Account: 'pop.ntlworld.com', Server: 'pop.ntlworld.com', Protocol: POP3,
Server Response: '-ERR a user name MUST be entered', Port: 110, Secure(SSL):
No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC91

From virgin's advice on this (as advised by somone in another response)
http://www.virginmedia.com/help/compatible/index.php I note that my username
must be the first part of the email (i.e. up to the @). I have also checked
my other settings (Tools -Accounts- Propoertis-Servers) in accordance with
virgin's paper and they appear to be correct.

Unfortuantely I cannot remember my passowrd. Can I reset this? If so how? If
not -what can I do so I can receive emails again? What happened to cause
windows mail to ask me for my password now when it hasn't done so for months
and months?
