I am connecting to a domain on a remote network. I can't be certain of the
version of Windows on the remote network, but I believe it to be Windows NT.
I was able to configure a Windows Me PC so that the remote network prompted
for a userID/password and domain. I have been unable to configure Windows XP
Pro (SP2) in the same way. I believe the difference between the two versions
of Windows is that I could log on to Windows Me without supplying a
userID/password while Windows XP Pro requires a userID/password. The remote
network must be detecting that a userID/password has already been entered and
therefore doesn't prompt for it. This prevents my remote network logon
script from executing.
I have tried running in compatibility mode for both Windows 2000 and Windows
NT. I've tried using the guest account to log on to the Windows XP Pro PC.
I've tried running the connection program (company-supplied VPN) as a
different user. I've even tried setting up a "default" user account similar
to the "default" account available in Windows Me. The remote network is
still not requesting a userID/password or domain when connecting, and the
logon script will not execute. (As information, I am actually connecting to
the network and can view other computers in my workgroup. I just can't
trigger the logon script to execute and I can't execute it manually due to
security restrictions - probably also due to the fact that I'm not prompted
for the remote network userID/password.)
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
