"Not enough Memory"

I am getting the message "Not enough Memory" when I am copying formulas over large areas. I searched under this topic and found Knowledge base article 313275. This suggests upgrading to excel 2003 and some other lame workaround about dividing my work up into many different workbooks. I have Excel 2003 on another machine and this seems to help some but does not completely fix the problem. The idea of dividing the work up into several different workbooks seems very inconvenient, as it seems that I might need to divide it up into maybe 50 different workbooks. Is there any other way to increase this internal heap space that is mentioned in the knowledge base article or is there another good alternative.
