not able to open attachments inside a saved MSG file

When i open an msg file, i get error "The operation failed. An object could
not be found." when opening attachments inside the msg file. I am able to
open the attachments within the msg file if i launch outlook (both 2007 and
2003) in safe mode.

i don't have Google Desktop search and was able to duplicate problem on
another computer running Win XP with Office 2003 SP3 (i'm using Vista 64bit
business, with office 2007 SP1). can't figure it out and search online but
found users problem related to Google desktop search.

The fact that it works in Safe Mode makes me assume it is caused by an
addin. Disable them all and enable them one by one to find the culprit.

thanks for you reply..i did check for any add-in but none at all. i used
another computer (cleaner, less apps installed) and was able to open
attachments within an msg file..i am researching this right now and will post
any if i find the cause. but please post if you have any more ideas on how
to best resolve this issue

Sure there are add-ins. Even default installations of Outlook come with them
pre-installed.

Resetting your dat-files might work as well;

Had a similar problem with attachments, and saw this post. Checked the
add-ins under Tools-Options-Other-AddIn Manager and unchecked Symantec
Anti-Virus Outlook Protection.

Worked immediately.
