I suddenly had a message telling me to uninstall and reinstall Norton due to
an error. I was running NAV2005, but only had the disc for 2004, which I
eventually reinstalled (Norton's helpline was useless) Now it will not let
me enable autoprotect (I select it , then NAV unselects again) also it will
not select the protect email function. Any ideas how I can so this and how I
can get the 2005 upgrade without paying again (Norton will not answer my
emails on their HELPLINE)

Just one more reason why I hate Norton and use AVG.

By default Symantec's Online store (Digital River) includes a download
insurance option (~$7), that allows you to re-download the product.
You should have been prompted to create an account & password. Also,
you can look up the purchase from your email receipt. You will need the
Purchase Order #.
What you are experiencing isn't uncommon with these latest Norton
products. I hope you've got most of Sunday to work on this, as you're
in for a long, convoluted process. You are going to have to uninstall the
existing product, download a Cleanup utility from Symantec and then
start the install process over again. Hopefully, you'll get through it OK.
Personally, I've dropped all Symantec products, excluding older versions
of PowerQuest Drive Image & PQMagic that Symantec purchased.
You'd be better served getting a refund & filling out a Destruction form.
Get a free year of eTrust 7.0 & use Zone Alarm or Sygate free Firewall.
Anyway Good Luck with it - If you have an imaging program I would
most certainly image your machine before starting to untangle the problems
with Symantec/Norton.
