Spent so many wasted hours trying to get norton out of PCs using their
so called "tools" and tips from others. The only sure way I have found
is nuke it - reformat and re-install the O/S minus Norton. I know its
over the top but it is actually as quick as spending hours digging
about in the registry.

The sodding thing is a virus, its desigened to convince you its less
trouble to buy a supscription than uninstall it.

Did you disable it before you tried to uninstall it? Also, with stinking
Norton, if you go into the "add and remove programs" in control panel,
instead of clicking on remove, click on "change", and there is a remove
function in there. If the worst comes to the worst, go into your C drive,
open symantec program folder and delete files one at a time. about 4 or 5 you
can't, but they don't matter. Do the same with the Norton folder. Seems
messy, but it does work! Then you won't have a conflict

I removed the trial version. I had no problem. All I had to do is start
the installation of my PC Cillin Internet Security program and it did the
rest. It removed Norton, I rebooted and commenced the installation. All we
well.
