I have Win XP Home with 80GB HD and Norton SystemWorks 2002 (which
includes Norton Speed Disk).
I normally use Windows's built in DeFragmenter. According to
Microsoft's tool, I could see 25% was red (ie fragmented).
On this occasion, I decided to use Speed Disk. It was impressed that
it was doing clever things like placing frequently accessed files in
the beginning and then placing frequently modified files.
After Norton finished; I ran Microsoft's DeFrag and did "Analyze" and
found that 75% of the disk was all "red" (ie fragmented). Some files
had 300 fragmentations with Norton!! More then I had started!. So why
was there more fragmentation after running Speed Disk?
Has anyone seen this before? Should I use Speed Disk again or stick
Microsoft tool in future? Any advice why this is happening?
Cheers,
Rajesh
