Norton Internet Security Auto Live Update

I have NIS 2006 & NIS 2005 installed on two computers. Whenever I run live
update on either invariably the virus definitions are updated. Therefore I
have concluded (correctly ?) that the auto update is not working.
I have tried a number of solutions including re-loading the live update
files, complete re-installations etc....
Since the only common denominater appears to be the router (a Netgear DG
834) is it possible that my router settings are at fault

With Norton products anything is possible. My suggestion would be to
replace them with something of better quality and reliability.
