Norton antivirus

Whenever i try to install norton antivirus on my home pc
(athlonxp 2000+, 60 gb hd, 512 mb ddr266, winxp pro) it
will get about 75% 0f the way through the install, but
then it will stop, roll back the installation, and tell me
that there was a problem and that it couldn't finish
installing. I have tried 2 diff versions of norton
atnivirus,(systemworks 2002, antivirus 2001) and in both
cases they didn't install. (systemworks actually left
it's crap laying around my system and i can't uninstall
any of it) If anyone has any ideas, PLEASE help me here.
BTW, my dad runs xp too, and he does not have any problems
with the same antivirus disks.

How to use the Norton SystemWorks cleanup utility (SymClean)
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nsw.nsf/docid/2001101612274407

Download and run the above Symantec cleanup utility, reboot your computer,
logon with Administrator privileges, then proceed to install Norton 2002 or 2003
only.

Read the whole articles before starting to do anything, especially the
last one (sounds like the rnav utility won't run in native XP mode)

Make sure you've completely uninstalled all of the Norton stuff and then
try installing. Both of the versions you mentioned are out-of-date, and
Symantec isn't supporting NAV 2001 anymore. Nevertheless, if it was me,
and those were my two options, I'd install NAV 2001 instead of NSW 2002.

put the norton back in your cd Drive and boot from that
you will be asked to check viruses from the CD disk you
should do that you might have a virus on your computer It
will take some time to check it don't be surprised three
or four hours

Throw Norton in the garbage. You don't need it. (Unless of course you want
to open all the unknown attachments sent to you).

Is there a site where i can download a trial version of
either of those, or do i have to go out and buy the prog?
I really don't wanna have to re-purchase norton, however i
will if i have to.
