2 PROBLEMS: Antivirus Software Conflict + Standby

My learned friends,

I have two problems I need your assistance with. Owing to a memory issue I
recently had to do a clean install of windows and I am now in the process of
reinstalling all of my software.

Problem 1: Antivirus Software Conflict

I reinstalled Norton Systemworks pro 2003. I already have Avast antivirus
software on my system owing to a recommendation by an MVP. When I start up my
system and get into my desktop I am told that there is a software conflict
between Avast and Norton. In truth, I really prefer Avast. MVP knows best
perhaps. I reinstalled Norton systemworks simple because of it “one button
check-up†and “clean sweep†facilities. I did not anticipate the conflict
with Avast.

The problem is that I have tried to delete the Norton software as an
uninstall does not take away all of the Norton software on the PC causing the
conflict. However, when I try to delete the folder I am told, for example:

“Cannot delete DJSMAR00.dll Access is denied. Make sure that the disk is not
full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in useâ€

How can I solve this problem?

Also, is it possible for me to keep the one button check-up facility without
the antivirus component? For example, when I eventually delete the folder,
can I reinstall Norton Systemworks 2003 but delete its Antivirus, Ghost and
other facilities but retain the one-button check up?

Please advise

Problem 2: Standby

Before the clean install, when I put the PC on standby the Monitor, CPU and
my external hard drive would shut down. However, now, when I put the PC on
standby the monitor shuts down as usual but the CPU and external hard drive
seem to remain on as I can still hear the fans from both the PC and the
external hard drive, not to mention that the light indicating that the
external hard drive is on remains on during standby and this was not the case
before.

How can I solve these problems?

Thanking you in advance,

Yours,

Joe

You would have to visit Symantec site for info, and maybe tools, to
completely remove the software.
You will have to decide as whether to install Norton or the Avast, or any
other AV software. Any attempt to install Norton with any other security app
will allmost certainly lead to further conflicts.

You should never run more than one anti-virus program at a time.

In truth, I
really prefer Avast.

Good. It's much better.

If it were me, I would uninstall *everything* Norton.

causing the conflict. However, when I try to delete the folder I am

The best advice is to uninstall *everything* Norton.
