Norton AntiVirus - Am I Missing Something

Ok, so I run Norton AntiVirus. It finds 12 "security threats" and instructs
me to delete them. I do so, but it can only delete five of the twelve
files. Ok, so now I've still got 7 files on my computer, but Norton doesn't
offer any additional options/instruction for removing them. Real f*cking
helpful, people...

Any suggestions as to how to proceed? Am I missing something here?

I ran into something similar today. Even though NAV couldn't delete
the files, I was able to do so manually (e.g., from Windows
Explorer). There was one .DLL I couldn't delete, but I was able to
rename it, then delete it after a system reboot.

Those files could not be deleted because some process (probably the virus
itself) is using it. Look for any suspicious processes and end them. Then
try deleting the left over infected files.

When you got the identification, wasn't the name of the threat a link?
If not, you can always manually go to
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/vinfodb.html

Or try deleting the dangerous files after a reboot into Safe Mode.

Or run NAV in Safe Mode to start with. That way the files won't be
active. Still though, I've had Norton tell me it couldn't delete the
files... even in Safe Mode. But I had no problem deleting them manually
in Windows Explorer.

How do you tell what constitutes a suspicious process? (I've got the same
problem as the OP, only with 26 leftover infected files)
