Norton AntiVirus 2006 and System Restore

I have the same problem as some other posts here, where my system restore
won't function properly because of Norton AntiVirus 2006. I can find the
miscellaneous tab to turn ot the 'Turn protection on for my Symantec'
feature, however I cannot find anything referring to the 'Symantec Resource
Protection' feature. I fear until I can find this I will not be able to
restore my computer. Please Help.

That's the best advice for anybody thinking about buying a Symantec product,
Norton AntiVirus IS a Virus. I've gone and put in McAfee VirusScan Plus 2007
and it's a lot better. It doesn't infest your system nowhere near as much as
Norton. I didn't own my computer, Norton owned it, he'd taken over the whole
machine. I also had IE6 script errors, registry errors, all after i'd put in
Norton.
Thanks for the advice.
p.s. To anyone who's going out to buy and may be weighing up the various
antivirus products, DON'T BUY NORTON!

You're welcome Jimbo.

McAfee has just about the same reputation as Norton. I hope your experience is
better.

I have 2 desltop PC's and a notebook, ALL with NAV 2006.
The desktops have XP Pro and the Notebook has XP Home.

I have used sytem restore MANY, MANY times on them, in fact I rolled
back a day yesterday on both the desktops !.... and every time with no
problems with NAV 2006.

Althought I am not a big fan of Norton programs other than NAV (bad
experience many years ago with internet security), NAV if fine with me
..... why so many people knock it I don't know, I have used it since
Win 95 days withiout a single problem....

Just my opinion !

I'm with you Steve. I've also had NAV since Win95 and now have NAV2006. In
fact, I had to use system restore just before reading this mail because of a
fatal error that wouldn't allow re-boot except safe mode. Simple restore and
I am back to normal.

I too ran NAV for many years without a single problem, on my own machines
and those of many others I supported. I also pooh-poohed the advice of
others who warned me against it. Then I ran into a string of problems, on
several different machines. As a result, I no longer run it here or install
it for anyone else, and I always recommend against it.

Problems with NAV don't happen to everyone every day, but the risk of
problems is always present and it's a big risk, as far I'm concerned. If
you're happy with it and want to continue running it, it's certainly your
choice. But I predict that you too will change your tune one day. Most of us
do sooner or later.

You may not think you've got any problems, but if your running NAV2006, i bet
you do. I bet if you go to the Windows Security Center, it'll be shut down
and have a message saying 'The security center is unavailable because the
process wasn't started or was stopped....' NAV2006 shuts down Security Center
on every machine that has it, unless you chose not to have NAV as your
default security program. You have to go into Administrative Tools to turn
the Windows Security Center back on. I'd also bet that if you ran the
Windows Live One Care online scan it would find the same 9 regisry errors
that cannot be fixed, these 9 errors are not there once NAV has been wiped
from the memory banks!
As soon as these problems become apparent, switch to McAfee.
