Hans Grimm

hello, i have the following problem:
last week i received and installed NAV2004PRO, and
installed it on 2 systems, one running WinXPpro, and one
running W2K.
on the one running W2K i had some setup problems, which i
managed to solve. no troubles after that.

on the XPpro system however, NAV2004 seriously affects
the performance of several apps. Macromedia Dreamweaver
MX ran sluggishly, and after that not at all. i finally
worked around that by excluding the Macromedia program
files folder from NAV auto-protect.
ons remaining issue is MS Internet Explorer, which loads
some webpages very slowly (mainly dynamic pages, f.i.
ASP). when i disable NAV auto-protect, it all runs like
it should..

i have tried to contact Symantec about this, but no luck
so far. I also installed patch Q811493 without result.

does anyone know how to solve this? I would be very
grateful.

Hello Hans Grimm,

Any Anti-virus programs slow down any computer. There is no fix for this. I
do recommend you to keep it and enable it all time. It's better to be safe
then sorry ;)

Jose Francisco

I've seen some other negative comments about NAV 2004. I expect
Symantec will probably come out with some sort of update/patch before
too long. You should be sure to do a "Live Update" frequently. Not
only will this keep your virus definitions current, but you'll get any
revisions to the program itself whenever they come out.

thanks Lem,

i have been faithfully using NAV for years now, and have
alway had it switched to auto-liveupdate, besides
checking regularly for program updates. it's just that i
have never before had such problems with Norton...

the XP blue screen error a few months ago was fixed
quickly by an update. i had only 2 bluescreens .. :)

Jose,

of course it's safe to keep it enabled, but when it slows
down my surfing that badly it's no picknick. the other
apps are running smoothly.

thanks for your input.
