If you didn't uninstall NAV before you upgraded, then you've got some
work to do. Symantec has a utility that is supposed to remove the old
installation, but I never had much luck with it. Hopefully, you don't
have other Symantec products installed... that'll make it a little bit
easier. The hard but sure way to do it is:
1. Search for every folder on your drive that has "Symantec" or "Norton"
in it and delete it. Make sure you get the one under Documents and
Settings - All users - Application Data.
2. Then search the registry for all references to Symantec or Norton and
delete all they keys, values, etc. Make sure you create a restore point
or at least back up your registry before you start. This step takes a
LONG time as there are a zillion references in the registry.
3. Then install from scratch... you shouldn't have any problems then.
I arrived at this procedure after several visits to the Symantec
support site. I have a helluva time finding stuff on that site, but
somewhere I found the procedure above and used it to get myself out of
the same predicament,
Maybe someone else has an easier solution. If they do I wish I'd known
about it before I ran into the same problem.
Bottom line is, XP requires a fresh install of NAV. Installations
from a previous operating system won't work and if they aren't removed
*before* the upgrade, you can't reinstall in XP without a lot of pain.

While the details in that post probably are appropriate for fixing
difficulties with Norton AV, since the OP seems to have just
"upgraded" to WinXP perhaps a better route would be to start over and
format the drive and install XP.

In the long run this will be the cleanest solution. To the OP: before
you reformat and install, download all the newest drivers for your
video card, sound card and other devices. Put 'em on CD so you have
'em handy.

You go *that* right. That's what I did (way back) when I installed it
on my own machine. Unfortunately I have customers who bring their
computers in and want upgrades because they don't want to "lose their
stuff". The data could be backed up, of course, but most of them don't
have their original installation CD's to reinstall the apps. It's a pain
to get the bugs out... sometimes you never do.

Yes, that's VERY important. Some manufacturers motherboards have unique
devices that XP just won't recognize. I still think that Windows 98 was
better at detecting things than XP is.

Well I suppose in your case then that just brings them back to buy a
whole new system when they finally get exasperated.

Well, that's not my intention. If they want a new one they'll probably
go to Best Buy or somewhere similar and buy one cheaper than I could
build them one for.
