Error 1606

S

seawind

While trying to upgrade from Kaspersky 6 to 9 I received the following message-

Error 1606 could not access network location @:systemroot%\system32

When I tried to remove the Kaspersky 6 the same error massage displayed. I
can't find this particular type of 1606 error in the Microsoft database. I
have run four different registry cleaners without success. Is this a Registry
problem? I have looked in the Registry (very scary) and there are a mass of
Kaspersky keys in there.

I know nothing about Kaspersky, and can't help with your problem, but
I urge you to stay away from Registry Cleaners.

Registry cleaning programs are *all* snake oil. Cleaning of the
registry isn't needed and is dangerous. Leave the registry alone and
don't use any registry cleaner. Despite what many people think, and
what vendors of registry cleaning software try to convince you of,
having unused registry entries doesn't really hurt you.

The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner erroneously
removing an entry you need is far greater than any potential benefit
it may have.

Thanks for the advice Gerry. I have used Registry Mechanic for years without
a problem but the site your mentioned on cleaners really gave me a jolt. The
key thing being one contributer who raised the point that no one source could
possibly know the details for all software.

Unfortunately the other reference does not help.

and the new version is now installed without having to use any other
software. Again many thanks to you and all the others who contributed. It's a
great forum.
