nornal.dot problems!!!

Following the previous advice given here, I have renamed "normal.dot and also
deleted it. It recreates itself with the same problem. the page opens with
a paragraph symbol that cannot be deleted. The page in the upper left tool
bar where font information if normal found states "Final Showing Markup" I
will appreciate any solutions. Any Word document I open has the paragraph
symbol everywhere. Thanks for your help,

serves a purpose. Many of us can't work without seeing those little helpers.
