There is a note of author's instruction:
"In both displayed equations and in text, scalar variables must be in
italics, with non-variable matter in roman.:

What does "non-variable matter in roman." mean?

Numbers e.g. 123.42
Constants e.g. A, B ... H ... Z (coefficients which may have
subscripts)
e, ?, ... ?, ? ... (maths constants ...
engineering
properties like
coefficient of friction,
viscosity etc.)

Sometimes it can be hard to tell ...
