no Volume icon in the taskbar

I have a computer that does not have the Volume icon in the taskbar
even though the check box is checked in "ControlPanel/Sound and Audio
Device".

Any suggestion as to how I can get the icon to show?

Thanks

Was it once there and now not? If so, what did you do jst before it
disappeared? If the volume control recently disappeared, try doing a
System Restore.

What happens if you uncheck the box in Control Panel, OK your way out,
and then go back and check it? Do you get an error message? If so, see

I don't use that machine but I know it was there long ago.
I don't know when it stoped being there. Might be quite a while for all I
know.

I'll try that.

I copied a SNDVOL32.EXE to that computer and if the above does not work I'll
put it into SYSTEM32

If all else fails, you may have to re-install the drivers for the sound
card. You may have them on a CD that came with the computer, from the
computer mfr web site (if it's a "name brand" or a laptop) or from the
sound card mfr's web site. Do NOT get drivers from WIndows Update.
