No video in safe mode

I am having trouble getting video in safe mode (or VGA mode for that matter).
In safe mode, after loading agp440.sys, the screen stops updating and there
is no more video.

All appears ok in normal startup.

A little history; I tried to installed a new AGP video card, had trouble
getting it working, tried to get my original AGP video card and couldn't. I
had to install a PCI video card in order to get normal video working.

Now I am left with no video in safe mode. Tried uninstalling vgasave,
rebooting and doing a hardware detect. vgasave is enabled (as shown in
recovery console).

Running XP Pro SP2.

Any ideas?

Boot to normal mode, open Device Manager and click the View
option and check "Show Hidden Devices". Expand the Display
adapters category, Uninstall all devices (Assumes you're still on
the PCI card). Download the latest Chipset driver package for
your motherboard and install. Don't reboot - Shutdown. Remove
the PCI card, insert your new AGP and boot to Windows XP
normally. Then install your new card's driver/support software.

Ok. I followed your steps and got my AGP card working (though I had to
change IRQ's in order to get it to work). I still have no safe mode video.
Any other ideas?
