No video after boot screen. (How can I cancel the XP repair process?)

I just reinstalled windows XP, and afterwards, there was a
problem with my video driver not being able to install.
In the process of trying to fix it, I disabled the VgaSave
service, which caused the video to stop displaying.

Before searching newsgroups for answers, I tried to repair
windows, but after the first reboot, it goes to the same
black screen. After that, I found how to re-enable the
service in the recovery console, but after rebooting, I'm
still not getting any video. I've tried booting into safe
mode, VGA mode, and normal mode. I've also tried the
repair option again, but it is doing the same thing as
before I re-enabled the VgaSafe (or is it VgaSave.. I
don't recall at the moment.) service. My only thought is
that perhaps the initial repair process makes it's own
copy of the windows service configuration as part of its
setup, and it's not getting overwritten, so I want to find
a way to force the repair process to cancel.

How does windows know it should boot in repair mode? Are
there just some files I need to delete, or something else
I need to do? (Or, if possible, how can I force the
repair process to start over from scratch, if that's the
problem.)

If anyone has any ideas, they will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

A failed install is recorded in the boot.ini file. You can edit it out of
there. But you have more serious problems in that you screwed up your
present install.

The existing install should be fine now that I have re-
enabled the VgaSave service. (At least I think that's the
case.) The problem is that it is presumably stuck going
to the repair mode, and the VgaSafe service is still
disabled there for whatever reason.
