No Ultimate Extras for MSDN?

L

Linus Askerlund

Hi, I'm using the Swedish MSDN release of Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit but
the Ultimate Extras are not showing up. It is fully activated and I get
access to other "ultimate extras" such as all the language packs. How come
the "true" Ultimate Extras are not showing up?

From what I've understand the MSDN versions are identical to the retail
version aside from the activation scheme and are in no way connected to the
eval (I can only guess that this stands for evaluation/30 day trial)
versions I've been told do not get the Extras.

What do you mean that you get access to the "other ultimate extras" but not
the true extras?

It's either one way or the other, either you can access Ultimate Extras or
you can't.

Using the English MSDN version, I get all the extra's. It may be that they
are available only for the English version right now (which I doubt, but it
might be).

MSDN copies 'are' identical because they are the retail versions, so there
is no reason why you shouldn't get the ultimate extras. Someone had a
similar problem some weeks ago where, when he went to windows update, he
kept getting told no ultimate extras were available for download, even
though, at the time, two extras had been made available. I couldn't locate
an answer and notified him accordingly. However, in the meantime, he told me
that after a routine update (presumably windows defender secuirty update) a
few days later the extras were actually offered. So it may be a case of
waiting a little while longer to see if they are offerred. I actually set my
update schedule to notify me when updates are downloaded rather than the
default setting of updating at 3am each day.

Thanks, you've been very helpful! I'll wait and see what happens then. I did
however also get the Ultimate Extras on my test English install so I'm going
to do something wild and crazy like installing the English language pack to
see if that actually helps. I'll let you know how that turns out, just in
case it does work.

Well I'll be damned... it worked. After installing the English language pack
and restarting the Windows Update application I now got 3 Ultimate Extras
available for download.
