No standard VGA adapter

I recently installed Windows 2000 Professional on my system and am unable to
change from the standard 640 x 480, 256 color settings. I have an AT-31
Fusion motherboard with integrated graphics. After installing Windows 2000 I
tried to install the ATI video drivers. Each time I run the installation I
get an error message saying that the installation was unsuccessful and to
"try installing a standard VGA adapter first".

When I check out the Device Manager I do not see any display adapters
installed. How do I install a VGA adapter?

Thanks in advance for your help.
