win2k don't regonize and install vga driver for Radeon

Dear all

I need advise on installing the proper (win2k) display
driver for my Compaq Presaria 2100 notebook that came with
a Radeon 320M display adaptor

After a clean install of win2000, the display on screen is
very small (only half the screen size) and the resolution
600 X 480 with 8 color display. Indicating to me that 2000
did not recognize the Radeon card.

The display driver supplied ATI and Compaq's side does not
install. As soon as installation of the driver starts it
gives me the error : INF error video driver not found.
and then give a comment suggesting a 1st install a
Standard vga driver.

If I go to systems | Device Manager, the display adapter
does not appear as a installed device, so I can't do a
driver update for that device.

Normally if windows don't have the proper driver (during
installation of 2000) for your display adapter, it will
load a standard vga driver (which you'll find under Device
Manager)

Like I said in this case the device is not there at all
(I've got snap shots that I can mail you about this.

Please Help
Ta Pete
