....and I didn't change anything on the computer! Yesterday evening I came
home, checked the computer, went upstairs, and when I came back down the
computer looked like someone had messed with my display settings. The usualy
silver XP taskbar & the tops of any windows that I opened looked totally
different.. it looks like Windows 98 style. No sounds will play, and when I
go to sounds & audio devices properties it tells me there is no audio device
installed, even though there is. Now the computer is also telling me that
certain programs like iTunes cannot open because they may not be installed,
even though they are installed. I ran two different virus checks and both
came up clean. I have no idea what's going on! Help!

I figured out that the computer is only letting me us the Windows Classic
theme. When I try to browse and manually select the XP theme it won't let me
run it because, no matter how many times I start up Themes under computer
management and set it on automatic, it tells me that it's not running. It
will work for a few seconds then change back to classic. Ughh.

try doing a restore to before this happened.

Start|All Programs|Accessories|System Tools|"System Restore"

if system resore is turned on your computer automaticly saves restore
points in case you need to undo recent changes made to your computer.

Best of luck...
