no sound

I have just installed xp on my neighbours computer which
has an ECS K7S5A motherboard which has onboard sound.I
cannot get any sound now at all after installing xp,
windows media player would not work either. I installed a
codec sound driver from the ECS website and installed it,
the media player visually is working but I still can get
no sound whatsoever. I have gone through all the
usual 'device manager' settings and driver updates but
without success. Anybody any ideas please?

Try these drivers:

ftp://ftp.ecs.com.tw/driver/sound/cmedia/uda035_w2kxp.zip

Also, check in your BIOS and make sure that sound is enabled
