No Sound

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop-with XP Pro. I recently lost all sound - no
system sounds, no sound from the cd or from media files. Then all of a sudden
I got sound back (weeks later). Then I lost all sound ! I checked all the
control panel settings and everything shows as working properly. I downloaded
the ALI driver from Toshiba just in case but installing it made no
difference. All the mute switches are off and all the volume controls turned
up. I even checked the regedit stuff on kellys-korner.com---to no avail.
System restore also did not help. The only thing I can think of that might
have had an effect was downloading Itunes (and sometime later - Napster) BUT
losing (and regaining and losing) sound - as best as I can recall-did not
coincide with either's installation. Can anyone HELP !???

It sounds like you've covered all the software-related troubleshooting.
Perhaps this is a hardware failure. In that case, call Toshiba tech
support.
