Does anyone know how to change the sound controls tabs from being in the
background and greyed out to bringing them forward so I can turn the sound
from Mute to on.? ny device manager shows I have the sound and audio drivers
but I cannot turn them up.
the tabs are recessed and will not open.

Thxs,

Lee

what does that mean..
I haven't found an answer yet that works.

It means you've alread had lengthy threads on this issue and have been
told that it is time to take the machine to a professional. Asking the
same question again is not going to get you different answers; it will
just waste everyone's time. This is not something you are going to be
able to solve in a newsgroup.

Thanks for clarifying.. I asked way too many times.
I had it posted most times in the wrong place. My apologies.
I continued to ask because I did have this exact same issue resolved on here
several years back. By someone who knew what the answer was.
so I thought I might have the good fortune to be told again.
I will figure it out it cannot be that big a deal.
Thanks

It means, for example, that in at least one of your other threads, you
stated very important information which you did NOT include in your post

Why did your computer "crash"? Any error messages?

Did you do a Repair Install or a format & reinstall? (Sounds like the
former.) What did you use to "reload" WinXP (e.g., the CDs that came with
the machine; CD(s) from another machine; the hidden Recovery partition)?

I certainly had no intention of being a nuisance on here and was not out to

I was getting messages to keep posting in other areas which I did and hence
it looked like I was asking more times than I already had.. I was just

I didn't get a whole lot of acutal info other than put in the soundcards..or
get out your over your head.
It was my error to not keep posting the same info as I thought I may get a

I am not a pro at these forums as you are only too aware.
My computer crashed..I have no idea why..I will assume a virus.m I since
found out alos my server was having issues.
I couldn't get past start up and it wouldn't start in safe mode.
I put in the XP cd that came with the computer.
if i had the money to pay a person to come in I wouldn't hesitate.
I have always fixed everything on my own one way or the other.
this same thing happened several years ago as I stated.. so I know it is
some simplistic thing I am missing.
Again I apologize and would never set out to waste anyones time.
I will figure it out with perserverance I always do.

I assume other CDs also came with your machine. At least one of them
included specific drivers for the machine and hardware: Did you install
those drivers? Did the speakers you're using now come with the machine?

Is the machine fully patched at Windows Update now? Is Automatic Updates
enabled? Is an anti-virus application installed? Is the Windows Firewall
or a third-party firewall enabled?

Have you contacted the computer manufacturer about your problems?

I ran the Windows XP. I added the mainboard series driver cd.
The speakers came with the computer. They were working fine before this. I
loaded all recent Windows updates.
automatic updates enabled... and firwall on. Have Norton antivirus,

I cannot contact the manufacturer..they are useless as I sadly found out

I do thank you so much for you time..
I do know it is some stupid little thing that I am missing.
Under devices it shows all drivers etc. enabled and
running properly
it is just something small ..I am sure that is stopping the tabs that are
grayed out on sound from working.
I will keep plugging away at it.

Thanks again for your patience with me.

Take the system to a local, reputable, and independent (i.e., not
BigBoxStore) shop. Shouldn't cost more than $50 to get this fixed,
including new speakers/sound card if necessary.
