no sound

My PC was recently moved so all of the leads had to be unplugged from both
the screen and the computer. I've put it all back together with no problems
and everything is working except I have no sound at all. I don't have
speakers, the sound is intigrated. I've checked the manual for the audio lead
connection from the screen and I have got the lead plugged in to the correct
place (no option actually, it wouldn't fit anywhere except one place in the
back of the screen and one place (marked with an icon of a screen) in the
computer. I've gone into control panel and there doesn't seem to be anything
amiss there. I'm using Windows XP. Any suggestions?

Have you tried setting the sound on the screen?

Hi Dianne

Go into Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>Volume tab. Is the virtual
slider control set to zero? If so, hover your mouse arrow over the slider,
left click and hold down and drag it to the right.

Hope this fixes it

I'm not sure that you have hooked things up properly so I'm going to
discuss some of the ways your monitor and speakers may be connected to
your computer.

Go to this site and look at the plug:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector

This is a VGA video connector and does NOT carry any audio signals. Your
statement that the cable connects to
one place (marked with an icon of a screen)

makes me believe that you are talking about a video cable, not an audio
cable. The picture of a 'screen' is a symbol for a video connection, not
an audio connection. The picture at wikipedia will verify if this is the
case. If the cable you have connected matches the cable on Wikipedia then
it is the video cable and does not carry any audio signals. If that is
correct then there should be another cable for your integrated speakers.

A newer type of video only plug is shown here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVI

This plug, like the one above does NOT carry any audio signals.

If you don't have the above plugs, the you may have this one:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI

An HDMI plug, unlike the plugs above, may have integrated audio
connections. In that which case your speakers may be properly connected
though this cable.

If you have an HDMI plug then you can stop here as I have nothing further
to contribute at this time. If you do not have an HDMI plug then read on.

I'll assume your integrated speakers are mounted on, or are part of, your
monitor. If so, then you must find another cable connected to your
monitor or a jack that will accept an audio cable. If you cannot find
another cable or jack then it is likely that your monitor does not have
integrated speakers. Go to this site for a picture of what an audio plug
might look like:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_plug

If you have stereo sound then the second plug from the right is the most
likely candidiate. Finally, you must locate a jack on your PC which will
accept the audio plug connected to your integrated speakers.

If you know the make and model of your PC it might help if you posted
that information.

Newer sound cards don't put out enough voltage to drive speakers, so
make sure the power pack is plugged in and you have the power switch on.
But, if you've used it without the power pack, and want to again, make
sure the power switch is off.

I have NO VOLUME on the (Right) Speaker. Left Speaker works fine and Volume
Level on HIGH. The Master Volume Balance is in the CENTER where it should
be...I play a Video/Music file and I slide it Left.....Left speaker works
fine. I slide it to the Right....NO SOUND.

I have a MICROTEK 914 SD Monitor (with SPEAKERS in the Monitor). I've made
sure the "Sounds and Audio Devices" in the ADVANCED Tab are set to MONITOR
SPEAKERS. Then I play a music clip and slide the balance to the left speaker
(sound works).....slide it to the right speaker (no sound).

I've contacted MICROTEK (Tech Support) where I got the monitor from and did
troubleshooting and all to NO avail.....still doesn't work. I've made sure
ALL connections were in tact and no loose cables. MICROTEK stated it appears
to be the Right Speaker failed. I think it may be something else with the
settings of some type and done all the troubleshooting I could.

Are there OTHER steps you can assist me with on this before I return this
monitor? I think the speaker settings "might" have been corrupted and need
to be reset. Your opinion?

Your professional expertise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Bill :)

Check the settings in the 'Sounds and Audio Devices' applet in 'Control
Panel'. If your audio hardware in the computer came with any applications
software then check that as well. (What audio hardware do you have?)

Try a different audio cable from the PC to the monitor. Maybe your cable is
faulty.

Try connecting a different pair of speakers to the PC. This will verify
that the PC is producing a good signal.

Make sure the plugs are fully inserted into the jacks. You are experiencing
the classic symptoms of a partially inserted plug.

Try a different cable.

Try different speakers or a set of headphones.

Make sure that the plugs are fully inserted into the jacks. Your symptons
are classic for a partialy inserted plug.

Open the volume panel and check all the balance sliders. You should have
siders for all your sound sources. i.e. Microphone, Wave, CD, etc.
