Hi there.

I am a newby to the newsgroups and I really hope someone can help me
at all. I have recently had my PC replaced and a power surge killed my
motherboard on my old PC.

I have now had it replaced with an ASUS P5V800-MX with on board
soundcard.
My problem is I have NO sound on my PC at all. I've gone into Device
manager and the Audio is working correctly, but when I goto sounds
and Audio in control panel there is no Audio device found... Ive
really tried
everything and now its completely baffled me???? Can anyone pls pls
pls help me with this

You need to install the drivers for your motherboard, which will include
the sound drivers. You should have received a driver CD with the new
motherboard. If you didn't, then download the drivers for your specific
model motherboard from Asus' website.

sometimes you can go into device manager and a do a driver update
they will be on your cdrom that came with the board.

have you tried removing the sound info from device manager and rebooting?
Let winxp try a reinstall.

also and don't be insulted but make sure you have your
sound connections to the board in the proper jacks.
If the auto detect is on it will not find the speakers unless
they are plugged into the proper jack. I know this because my asus board use
the same onboard sound.

"had it replaced" implies you contracted and paid someone to do it
for you. In which case, you should contact that party and ask them to
finish the job properly.

Legacy audio drivers is not your soundcard, there should be an entry called soundmax audio
device(not exact name but should be close) in the device manager. The soundcard must be enabled in
the BIOS in order for Windows to find it. Use the latest from the website of the manufacturer as
those on the CD may be older than the ones at the site.

Hi there.... thanks for your replies. I have downloaded this file already
and it wouldnt open for what ever reason. I installed the Audio off the CD
the motherboard came with and when I have opened DEVICE MANAGER and gone to
sounds and games and cright clicked on Legacy audio drivers., it tells me
the device is working correctly. I've also been in the BIOS of the
computer to see if I can enabled the sound, this didnt work. I am gettin to
the end of my tether with it and am thinking about launching it into space.
Much to the enjoyment of my son who wud get his telescope out LOL.

Have you by any chance got any other suggestions b4 I ruin my new pc please

Thanks again
