No Sound Help

David Kerridge

My Toshiba laptop hard drive went south. I had to get another one and
start from scratch. I loaded Win XP Pro (OEM) and Office Professional 2003.

The first thing I noticed was that the only sound I had was the BEEP,
but nothing else. I went into device manager, under "Sounds & Audio
Devices Properties" and it said "No Audio Device".

Please help me. I've used Windows since it first came out, but this one
has me all messed up. On checking the audio devices, they all say that
they are working properly.

Detailed step by step help is needed. Help Help Help

Ryan's comment reminds me of the friend who asked me to look into his
low-sound problem, which turned out to be due to the fact that his
Toshiba laptop has an external (manual) volume control of which he was
not aware. Something to keep in mind.

More importantly, do you have the original software that came with the
laptop? It is possible that it includes some drivers that are specific
to your machine, and that the standard Windows counterparts are not
necessarily adequate. If not, you may want to try to locate appropriate
drivers for your particular sound device.
