No sound for windows stuff

The onboard sound card died last week (I think) So I installed a Diamond
Xtreme Sound 5.1 / 16 bit Sound card. The install went smoothly and the
driver's have no issues. But I still don;t have any sound. I checked all of
my Windows sound setting to make sure that a Mute button wasn't clicked. The
weird thing is when I go into the Diamond Xtreme Sound Control Panel and I
click the "Test Sound" button, I hear sound. So why is it then that the
sound doesn't work on any other program except ofr the Diamond Xtreme Sound
Control Panel. I even went into the Sounds and Audio Devices Porperties
dialog box, went to the sound stab and tested the Program Events sounds and
they didn't even work. I've also went to the Volumn tab, then Advanced and
tried all of the Speaker Setups. They had. That didn't work either. So is
their anyway to test to see why I'm not getting any sounds?

If the on-board sound card "died," did you also turn this off in the
BIOS? The on-board sound card might still be "signaled" to be
available to XP but physically not working.

Also make sure the new card is the default sound device. Disabling on board
sound in BIOS would probably do this.
