No sound coming from surround sound speakers

I just brought a 5.1 surround sound to add to my laptop and lcd monitor.
I have sound coming from the monitor and rear sourround sound speakers and
sound coming from the sub woofer. I get no sound from the front or center
speakers. Any suggestions on what it could be? Thanks for any help that I
receive.

Is your media (data) more than stereo?
Is your 5.1 hardware properly installed? And configured to use the speakers
as expected?

(Otherwise I wouldn't know.)

Start>Control Panel>Sounds and Audio>Volume tab>Speaker Settings>
Advanced button>Speaker Setup>scroll with the down arrow and select
5.1 Surround Sound Speakers>Apply>OK
