David, don't post your unmunged email address on Usenet or messageboards
if you don't want to get more spam and virus-laden emails. What does "i
have run troubleshoot (sic)" actually mean? What exactly have you done?
Somethings to try:

From MVP Kelly's excellent website, check out the 6th item down:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm

What changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't?
Did you install new software or drivers, particularly drivers from
Windows update? If you installed new drivers, go to the device entry in
Device Manager (from System applet in Control Panel), look on the
Drivers tab and rollback the driver. If you installed some software and
not drivers, try doing a System Restore (you will lose what you
installed).

Open the computer (while it is off!) and reseat the soundcard.

Without more information from you, I can't be more specific. Repost with
details if you want more help.

Uninstall all software connected with your soundcard. Turn off the
computer. Open it and reseat the soundcard. Try putting it in a
different pci slot. Restart the computer. If Windows finds the card,
reinstall its drivers and see if that works. If Windows does not find
the soundcard, the device has probably failed. Swap out with a
known-good soundcard. If working with hardware isn't your cup of tea,
take the machine to a good local repair shop for fixing.
