No Sound after using Windows Media Player

Upgraded my computer to Windows Vista on 5/16/07 and all the basic Windows
sounds were working (open, close, etc.). Yesterday I went to play an audio
file, was asked if I wanted to use Windows Media Player and I responded yes.
I believe it then had to download something, but not sure. The file started
with about a one-second long loud sound--not music--and then absolute silence
ever since. I have verified my speakers are plugged in, but still no sound,
not even the Windows bells and whistles.

My sound card is a RealTek High Definition Audio. I would appreciate any
help on this. Let me know if there is any other information you need.

It is now working. I found and downloaded the latest Realtek drivers and it
now is working great. Thank you for your quick reply.
