No sound after clean install

I have a Sony vaio. I just did a fresh installation of windows xp because my
operating system was corrupted. I was not smart enough to create a recovery
media kit disc. Therefore I have to be looking for the motherboard drivers.
Such as video, audio, and nic drivers etc.... After doing all windows
updates including hardware and all Sony.com updates for my model (PCV-RS720G)
i can't any sound off my pc. I go into device manager and it does not tell
me any drivers needed for any hardware. So therefore I assume everything
should be working properly.

I go into control panel/Sounds and come to surprise that I can't configure
the sound. Everything is faded out. I contacted Sony via chat and they told
me have to order their recovery disc and run it. I was wondering if there is
away around it. Such trying other sound drivers. I would hate to buy a
sound card. Any suggestions? Anyone?

Not really a way around it. You need to get the disc.

Sony should have their drivers avail for downloading from their website. It
is really
a huge shame if their screw their customers if they do not. Check your bios
to see
if you have the option to enable sound. If not, then you are at the mercy
of Sony.

I don't like to use a software called BeLarc. But it may help you to find
out
the make and model of your hardware, motherboard, sound, etc...
If you get the data for the sound, you may be able to get the driver
from the site of the manuafacturer as it may not be all Sony components
inside your machine.

Thanks to both that replied. No Sony does not have audio drivers for that
specific model. As a matter of fact they told me I have to purchase their
recovery disc. Which I think it's all about the money. I will never by
another Sony PC. Compaq's website is better.

it may suggest that the recovery disks may not have the sound driver as
well.
they may no longer offer because of the problems that they have experienced,
like yourself
but it may not mean that the outdated drivers cant be found. yu need to
figure out what "was" the driver
that "was" used for the machine. might be available at the site who made
your motherboard, or
the site that made the cmos code, etc....

try out the BeLarc download
or maybe one that is called CPU-z
or others that can provide some feedback of what
all you have as far as hardware. As mentioned
your pc may be marketed as a sony, but it is likely to
be a frankenstein, with the innerds coming from
companies all over the world....

PS: uninstall your current sound and device driver, so your pc don't get
hung up inadverdently....
