No screensaver or power down since update

Hi,

I don't know if anybody else is experiencing the problem I have since
the Xp update the other day.
After installing through autoupdate I restarted the computer as
requested and on restart the OS told me that it had recovered from a
fatal error.
After sending the crash report to Microsoft a crash analysis followed
from them saying that there was a problem with the video driver,
something like "device driver stuck in thread".
Anyway, after a reboot everything was ok but I now have a problem that
the computer won't go into screensaver or power down modes.
They are both enabled in the display properties.
I have all the latest patches and drivers (as far as I know, I check
regularly)installed.

Any comments or advice welcome.

TIA

Tony

How about removing the video driver from Device Manager & reboot (it will
then automatically re-install), alternatively use System Restore to go back
to before the problem occurred.
Device Manager is in the Control Panel, System applet, Hardware tab.
Hope this helps.

If your system uses a Nvidia video adapter, you may need to obtain an updated
security fix. The first issue of kb908531 caused many problems, one of which was
with Nvidia drivers, and has been reissued.

If you believe this is the case, I'd recommend that you uninstall kb908531 and
then go back to the update site and get the latest version.

FWIW, here's the workaround procedures, but it's much easier to simply get the
updated hotfix:

One of the not-uncommon dangers of blindly allowing Microsoft to
automatically apply updates - you never know what's been installed.

I would suggest your video driver(s) have been updated and are not
compatible. Follow the above tips.
