No preview available

Winxp SP2, 2GB RAM. I have a large collection of photos in various
folders of my pc and of late for some photos I observe that the windows
picture and fax viewer tells me that "no preview available" .
I tried to open these photos in various viewers like Irfanview,
PhotoScape,and others ---but with no luck. Irfanview gives "cannot read
file header - unknown file format or file not found".
I googled and did not find any solution.
I would like to know if anybody has similar problem and if so any
solution to share?
I would be highly thankful.

corrupted, I can't do anything with it.

recognize the file as an image.

The file has no relation to a JPEG. It is possibly some kind of
vector file, or database

A JPEG file always starts 0xff 0xd8 0xff 0xe? Your one starts 0xAC
0xCC 0x00 etc

I suspect that your hard dribve has got 'mucked up'. As you can see
file names it is likely that the file system has got corrupted

You probably need data recovery, and most likely as a Raw recovery
based on signatures. This may find the files as long as the data area
has not been overwritten. You would lose file names with a raw
recovery, but with photos this is not important.
