No Preview Available

After installing XP Pro on top of XP Home, one protected photo folder was
finally freed to access using tip below received from newsgroup:
HOW TO: Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308421

but although no I can access the folder, all stored photos give "No Preview
Available" in Windows Picture & Fax Viewer. Newer photos after XP Pro
installation work ok .... any ideas on what to do with the salvaged photos
from XP Home?

Ok...I'm guessing you can open the folder?

What is the extension on the files that you cannot open?

Will the files open in an image editing program?

If you do not have an image editing program...try
MS Paint....you can find it at...
Start / All Programs / Accessories / Paint.

Does the following KB article offer any useful info?
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;326675

Also...maybe the following would help:

Try this:

go to...Start / Run and type:

"REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL"
(without the quotes)(Yes, there's
a space between 2 and S)

Click...OK.

================================
This is an interesting problem and I have
no further suggestions. I would like to see
one of the image files.

With your permission, I will send you an
address to e-mail the file to.

Please advise.
