Word 2007, so you'll have to figure out how to access the file properties.

Dear Suzanne,
Thanks, as it got me to look for file properties. Nevertheless, I can only
save it with 'preview' under 'my templates' and not under 'recently used'.
Beats me. I am not impressed with the changes MS has made to Word, just the
opposite.

I hadn't realised it was possible to put the recently used templates view
(Office Button > New) in any view other than thumbnails with a taskpane
showing an enlargement? However, if you are looking in the recent Files
area of the File Open dialog, then the reason you don't get a preview of
those files is because they are not document/template files but links! That
would have been exactly the same in the previous versions.
