Preview in office 2007

Where has the preview gone in 2007? When I go to new template, I see
preview, list and details. The list and details works however when I go
preview I get "preview not available"? It was there in Office97, what is
with the new office programs not having previews?

Is it hidden somewhere or is there a download to correct?

There is some inconsistency in the way preview works between some of the
dialogs. A preview is always available from the file open windows and from
the New dialogs, but for some legacy documents/templates when creating new
documents you will only see a preview if there is a preview saved with the
document/template.

In addition, running in Vista at least (I can't test this in XP, since I
don't have it anymore), I find that preview in Office 2007 (but especially
in Word 2007) is semi-broken. Even for the identical files for which
"Preview not available" is not displayed, sometimes preview works, and
sometimes it doesn't. I can press Ctrl+O (open) and see previews for
files... then 10 seconds later press Ctrl+O and suddenly the preview pane is
blank for the same files for which it worked 10 seconds earlier. It's
completely random, except that it always works properly when starting Word
in Safe Mode (starting with the /a switch, however, doesn't have any
effect). I've seen this intermittent problem on every computer I've tried.

So, it's possible that the OP is seeing a combination of both problems --
Preview not available and the intermittent problem with files for which the
preview should otherwise be working fine (except that it might not be
intermittent on OP's computer).

Thanks for the info. I actually went to the Microsoft site to download the
templates and still I cannot preview them. Very frustrating. The ones built
into Office07 in most cases are previewable but anything downloaded just
states not available. Also when you select to go Microsoft Office Online
nothing happens. The only way is to type if the search bar and if something
is found it displays it. Office07 and Vista has caused nothing but confusion
to me. I simply use a product and need detailed into where to find answers.
