Merry Xmas everyone
Thanks to Santa, I just got a wireless router to share a cable internet connection. It works really well, for the net, but my O.E.6.0 email does not work. It is trying to connect thru my LAN connection. Is this correct

Thanks Natha

When I open Outlook Express, it opens O.K., and shows my old e-mails, my folders etc. but I get the following error message
"The host 'shawmail' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'shawmail', Server: 'shawmail', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0Dt .
I connnect through Shaw cable in Alberta.

Regards Nathan

See http://support.shaw.ca/customercare/config5.htm or check with Shaw.ca
Tech Support for the correct account settings, Nathan. Note that Secure
Password Authentication should not be checked and that Account name field
should display the Email username (whatever appears before @shaw.ca in your
email address), not 'shawmail'.

Hi there.

A few more details. I only started using the wireless router this afternoon. untill then I was plugged directly into the modem. After setting up the wireless router, I did not change any settings in O.E. When I watch the sequence of lights on my monitor, it appears as though the router (smc7004vwbr) and the wireleess USB Network adapter(Linksys wusb11) communicate together, but are unable to access the internet. O.E then comes up with an error message. The error message happens a lot faster than it did when I was connected directly to the modem. When I was connected directly to the modem and had a problem O.E. would say "connecting for about 5 secs before giving an error. Now it says "connecting" for barely 1 sec.
I checked Shaw's website O.E steup page and everything looks O.K., including user name.
I do not think that O.E is able to connect to the internet through the wireless router.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Nathan

I am replying this email with OE which is the default newsgroup client for
me and it is using wireless LAN.

First, make sure you have set up your wireless LAN correctly. That means
you have no problem using other applications, such as IE or ping or any
other to access Internet. And try, if you have Outlook, to see if it can
send and receive emails.

If you have no problem with the Internet connection. Check connection
settings of your OE. For me, I unclicked everything in all those boxes.

I set my kids comp to wireless. I am going thru a wired router AND a wireless. When I went into OE 6 on my admin account, it asked me to reset it up. I did and no problems
I had also removed my wired Lan card due to space
Try removing your Lan card or disabling

Hi All

I have now taken out my Lan card. I have uninstalled the wireless network card, and the router and let XP find new hardware, and every time my Internet explorer will work great, but O.E. always gives the same error. I have checked the O.E "tools" connection, and all looks Ok. This computer is about to take a short trip thru my window.

Thanks Nathan

Tell Outlook Express to use "any available connection"

Error Number: 0x800CCC0Dt

Was that a typo, Nathan? Is it 0x800CCC0D (i.e., without the final ' t ' )?

Disable email scanning of outgoing and incoming mail. It provides no
additional protection and even Symantec (NAV) says it's not necessary:

Sorry, yes the "t" was a typo. I have tried with my firewall disabled and norton e-mail scan disabled, but its still giving the same error.
If I go back to my direct connect through the network card/cable modem Then its Ok.
Regards Nathan

Just for kicks, I configured O.E. to check on my e-mail from work (telusplanet.net dial-up) and it worked Ok, and brought in my usual dose of Spam. So, The problem must be with Shawmail, but I cannot figure out what is different bettween my wireless connection and the direct connect network/modem connection. Any Ideas?
Regards Nathan

With my regular network card and modem, I can connect to shawmail and my telusplanet.net email with no problem. After I go wireless, I cannot connect to shawmail, but I CAN connect to telusplanet.net and access my email account from my work. I can also access my shawmail account from http://webmail.shaw.ca. So I have e-mailed Shaw cable to ask them if there is anything that they can suggest.
As for telnet, it does not appear to work correctly, but I am not sure if I am trying to connect properly.
Thanks for your help Nathan

With the network/modem in place, can you successfully telnet to the shawmail
server(s)? See http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/pop3telnet.htm

It would be *immensely* helpful if you included the previous message in all
of your replies, Nathan.
