configure the wireless router. However, I can not browse internet from this
computer( I am able to browse internet before configuration the wirless
router) the connection icon have the red cross shows that connection fail.
can Anyone give me help?
My question is if I configure the system to use wirless router. Am i able to
connect it thru cable or only by wirless? thanks

Ugh, some what frustrating!

How did you configure the router?
Did you enable its DHCP server? Does it have one?
Are you using PPoE? If so, did you provide user and password to the router?
Are you using any DHCP server that is not the router?

Did you turn modem off, wait a few seconds and then back on again while router
is turned off?

Once modem boots after power up and is ready to use, turn on router and wait
for a few seconds. Then lo into the router and check the LAN and WAN settings.

Router should be assigned a static IP by you.
WAN setting should show WAN ip for router, DNS server maybe more info
assigned by DSL provider.

Note that the router will have 2 ip addresses, one facin the modem and one
facing the LAN which is usually something like 192.168...

Is your first PC set to obtain IP automatically? how about DNS? You have to
go to Control Panel/LAN Connections/Properties/ TCP/IP Protocol/Properties
to check this out and set it right.

Once modem and router are power cycled, do same with PC. When XP boots
click on Start/Run, type in CMD to open the Command Line Interpreter (CLI)
and type ipconfig /all

What shows?
Your PC's IP should have the same 3 numbers as the router IP, for example,
your router LAN IP is 192.168.22.2, your DHCP server is set to start giving
out IPs at 50, so your PC's IP could be 192.168.22.50, but at least the 192.
168 and 22 should be the same as the router's.

What do you see for the DNS? Does the DHCP server point to the router?
What about the default gateway? It should also point to the router.

Ok, now back to the basics, make sure all cables are 100% functional and
connected correctly to each of the RJ45 connectors. Do you know for a fact
that the DSL modem is working correctly? Do you have a spare PC where
you can install the DSL conenctivity software and connect the modem
directly to the PC? If so, try this, start by configuring a stand alone PC to
see if you can see the Internet,, once that is confirmed you can move up a
step and include the router into the setup.

Also, try here:

Locate forums relevant to tyou DSL provider and router manufacturer.

Good luck!

Thanks Saga,
I followed guide software of the router to configure it.
I was using PPoE. I did provide user and password for this router. The
problem is the computer seemed not able to connect to internet or router at
all even the configuration went well.
