No one knows?!

No one knows how to turn Auto Insert Notification off? I
insert a zip disk in the drive and I get a full screen
window displaying it's contents. I also get a full screen
window when I login to the network(netlogon). Does ANYBODY
know how to turn these annoying things off?

Right click the device in question, choose the AutoPlay tab, and turn it
off.....

Auto Insert Notification has nothing to do with it. It was incorrect in 98
and still is. It breaks windows and thus breaks autorun.

AutoInsertNotification lets windows knows the contents of the disk have
changed because someone ejected one and inserted another.

Thanks for reply David-- Can you tell me how to turn it
off?

To Disable CD Autoplay in Windows XP Pro

[1] Start/Run/GPEDIT.MSC
[2] Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/System.
[3] Locate the entry for Turn Off Autoplay and modify.

Start/Run/Gpedit.msc/Computer Configuration/Administrative
Templates/System. Check your settings in the right pane, Turn Off
Autoplay (double click).

To Disable CD Autoplay, completely, in Windows XP Home

Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Then go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Name: NoDriveTypeAutoRun
Type: REG_DWORD

If NoDriveTypeAutoRun does not exist, create it and set its value to
145 (decimal).

Or...

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:0x000000FF

Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom
AutoRun = 0

Get TweakUI for XP and run it, go to My Computer/AutoPlay and uncheck the
drive letter of your Zip disk.

3) Locate the entry for Turn autoplay off and modify it as you desire.

or,

start > Run > enter REGEDIT > navigate to:-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explor
er

Create a new value called: NoDriveTypeAutoRun
Type is: DWORD
Value is: 0x000000b5 (181)

Hi Dave, Thankyou so much. I couldn't use
gpedit.msc, "snapin failed to initialize" but it sounds
like a real tool. NoDiriveTypeAutorun was set to 145
changed it to 181(per S.Sengupta) and it works just like I
wanted.
In an enviroment full of viruses, worms and malware,
benevolence is a beautiful thing.
Thanks Again

I have posted the answer to you twice already in the past three days.

Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have installed XP
SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP!, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

Its My Computer - Autoplay - Drives, uncheck the letter for the drive
concerned. You should leave it on for CD drives and more especially for
CD-RW burners

Also, look for anything related to the Zip Drive starting with Windows.
You don't give the brand name or any details, but Iomega used to have
something called "Iomega watch" that did just what the OP is
describing. You could disable it with msconfig. If this is indeed an
Iomega drive, you can safely disable any Iomega-related software like
the Iomega icon stuff, etc.
