I was working on my second computer and without knowing how, I uninstalled my graphic card. Now, I don't get into Windows XP at all, all I see is a black screen. There seems to be activity as per normal, but I don't see it. Can anyone help me... Is there anything I can do beside getting it to a repair shop?

Gizmo,
If you hit F8 after the Bios boot screen ,but before you see the
windows logo you should get a boot menu. Select 'VGA Mode' you should be
able to boot into XP at this point you can reinstall the driver for your
video card.

This doesn't work....I still get the black screen and nothing else happens. Is there a way to start in DOS right away...so I can start my restore CD?

XP has no DOS!!!

However, the restore CD may be bootable. BE AWARE that the restore CD may
clear out all the files from the hard drive.

Your restore CD should boot by itself. If it doesn't, then you need to go
into your BIOS and change your boot order so that the CDRom is 1st.

Gizmo,

Do you mean that you can not even see the POST screen when you turn on the
computer? If so this has nothing to do with XP. How did you "uninstall" your
graphics card?

I believe it happened while I was trying to make it work properly. For some reasons, xp did not recognise the driver. I can't see anything after the Toshiba screen besides a few seconds of the XP loading page

Okay-Then Menno's suggestion to go into the BIOS applies to use your restore
CD. Look for something on the Toshiba screen that says probably Setup and
tells you what key to press. From there you can access the BIOS to set your
computer to boot from the CD. Remember that if you use your restore CD you
will probably lose all data on the computer.

First though, I would try to get into Safe Mode, which loads very basic VGA
drivers and you should be able to fix your drivers. As soon as the Toshiba
screen comes up start pressing F8 before the Windows screen comes up.

And be sure to pick just plain "Safe Mode". Don't enable VGA support.
That will try to load the misconfigured driver(s), if that's the problem.

I have the same problem with my AGP Graphics card, caused in the same way.
But I can access the BIOS in the normal way and I have put in a PCI Graphics
card that the system does recognise. After a week of effort and advice I am
still in the same situation. When I select Safe mode it does not complete
loading.
